The Gospel is central to the work of The Gospel Banner
But what is the Gospel, according to the Scriptures?
We must begin with a perfect and holy God, who is far above us, majestic in glory and perfection, beyond our very best thoughts. We see also ourselves, who are sinful people, who do wrong things by very nature. We cannot keep the perfect laws of God, for we cannot always do what we think is right. The laws of God are set forth in the Bible, and refer to such small things (in our eyes) as our thoughts, and marks many of them down as sins against us. God is holy, and cannot look on sin or evil. This means that when we face God, when we are judged by him, at death or on Christ's second coming, in our natural state we must be condemned to the terrors of Hell.
But Christ came into the world to save sinners. He died on the cross at Calvary for sin, being appointed by God to come to be the only Saviour of the world. What is required then, that you may be saved, and made right with God?
If you see your need, and know that it is vital to be at peace with God; and you own that you are a sinner, however much or little you realise of your sin; then you must call upon the Lord. Look to Christ. Pray to God, that he would forgive you, work in your heart. Repent of your sins, and turn from them, and believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe that he is able to save you, and cleanse you from all your sin.
The Gospel is that 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners', that 'God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life'. Confess your sins to him today, and seek his face from a sincere heart.
